1:2 我的弟兄們，你們落在百般試煉中，都要以為大喜樂；
1:3 因為知道你們的信心經過試驗，就生忍耐；
1:4 但忍耐也當成功，使你們成全，完備，毫無缺欠。
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

雅各書的作者勉勵受信的讀者：『我的弟兄們，你們落在百般試煉中，都要以為大喜樂』。
義人所結的果子就是生命樹；有智慧的，必能得人。
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and whoever captures souls is wise.

『義人所結的果子就是生命樹』，這是上帝的恩典與應許，因為生命樹是只基督本身。若不是基督，人是無法得永生。這也是說，屬上帝的人（義人），必長成基督的身量。
你們卻要在我們主救主耶穌基督的恩典和知識上有長進。願榮耀歸給他，從今直到永遠。阿們！
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

彼得後書是一卷強調「知識」的書信，正如1章5-7節所說：『正因這緣故，你們要分外地殷勤，有了信心，又要加上德行；有了德行，又要加上知識；有了知識，又要加上節制；有了節制，又要加上忍耐；有了忍耐，又要加上虔敬；有了虔敬，又要加上愛弟兄的心；有了愛弟兄的心，又要加上愛眾人的心。』
17 神 啊 ， 你 的 意 念 向 我 何 等 寶 貴 ！ 其 數 何 等 眾 多 ！
18 我 若 數 點 ， 比 海 沙 更 多 ； 我 睡 醒 的 時 候 ， 仍 和 你 同 在 。
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
4:17 以後我們這活著還存留的人，必和他們一同被提到雲裏，在空中與主相遇，這樣我們就要和主永遠同在。
4:18 所以，你們當用這些話彼此勸慰。
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

我的靈在我裏面發昏的時候，你知道我的道路。在我行的路上，敵人為我暗設網羅。
When my spirit faints within me,
you know my way!
In the path where I walk
they have hidden a trap for me.
這卻怎麼樣呢？我們在恩典之下，不在律法之下，就可以犯罪嗎？斷乎不可！
What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

我們不可以用上帝的恩典，來縱容自己和弟兄姐妹繼續在罪中。我們要脫離罪，歸向上帝。因為悔改的真義，就是要我們的心意更新而變化，從悖逆上帝轉向順服上帝，尊耶穌基督為主，不願再犯罪遠離上帝。這是聖靈將十字架的作為實行在我們身上。
我羨慕渴想耶和華的院宇；我的心腸，我的肉體向永生神呼籲（或譯：歡呼）。
My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

你們要將一切的憂慮卸給神，因為他顧念你們。
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

人生在世免不了有憂慮，不管是為飲食、衣服、家人、工作、服事、身體、…等等，有太多太多的理由，我們可以操煩和憂慮各樣的事。但是憂慮對我們的靈命是一大傷害，因為憂慮讓我們眼目一直注意事情本身，而沒有注意上帝的同在，忘記我們上帝是有能力來幫助我們度過這些操煩的事件。
又說：你若留意聽耶和華 ─ 你 神的話，又行我眼中看為正的事，留心聽我的誡命，守我一切的律例，我就不將所加與埃及人的疾病加在你身上，因為我 ─ 耶和華是醫治你的。
saying, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer."

說到上帝是醫治者，講求靈恩醫治的人馬上會說：「你看聖經都這樣說了，你們為甚麼要批判『上帝醫治』這件事呢？你們為什麼不相信上帝會透過我們的禱告使人得醫治呢？」
你們這些淫亂的人（原文是淫婦）哪，豈不知與世俗為友，就是與神為敵嗎？所以凡想要與世俗為友的，就是與神為敵了。
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

所謂「淫亂」不是好色的問題，而是忠誠度的問題。是對於婚姻的盟約不忠誠，破壞了合宜的關係。同樣人對上帝的關係，本來就是要專一，若是不專一，就是信仰上的「淫亂」。
3:17你說：我是富足，已經發了財，一樣都不缺；卻不知道你是那困苦、可憐、貧窮、瞎眼、赤身的。
3:18我勸你向我買火煉的金子，叫你富足；又買白衣穿上，叫你赤身的羞恥不露出來；又買眼藥擦你的眼睛，使你能看見。
3:19凡我所疼愛的，我就責備管教他；所以你要發熱心，也要悔改。
For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

人不要誇口說驕傲的話，也不要出狂妄的言語；因耶和華是大有智識的 神，人的行為被他衡量。
Talk no more so very proudly,
let not arrogance come from your mouth;
for the Lord is a God of knowledge,
and by him actions are weighed.
凡不背著自己十字架跟從我的，也不能作我的門徒。
Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

一個人信了主耶穌，成為主耶穌的門徒之後，附帶要面對的問題是有的，不是因為你信了以後，就完全沒有問題。首先，要面對的就是與未信的家人和朋友，他們不理解、不知道你所信的。這之間的關係的調整，是你要面對的，這就是你的十字架。
113:5 誰像耶和華我們的神呢？他坐在至高之處，
113:6 自己謙卑，觀看天上地下的事。
Who is like the Lord our God,
who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
1:22 又將萬有服在他的腳下，使他為教會作萬有之首──
1:23 教會是他的身體，是那充滿萬有者所充滿的。
And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

我只怕你們的心或偏於邪，失去那向基督所存純一清潔的心，就像蛇用詭詐誘惑了夏娃一樣。
But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

保羅在此警告我們：『只怕你們的心或偏於邪，失去那向基督所存純一清潔的心。』
保羅這樣的警告，是要我們正視：我們還是處於有罪的世界、我們還尚未完全脫離罪、我們的原本贊同罪的心仍然還存在。也就是說，我們雖然信了主耶穌，接受了祂的救恩，我們還是處於罪的狀態，仍然會受罪影響。
敬畏耶和華在乎恨惡邪惡；那驕傲、狂妄，並惡道，以及乖謬的口，都為我所恨惡。
The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate.

這裡說到『敬畏耶和華在乎恨惡邪惡』，記住是「恨惡邪惡」，不是恨惡人。人是無奈被邪惡所綑綁、所壓制。人本身是受害者，「邪惡」才是我們所要抵擋的。也因為如此，我們要清楚誰是我們的仇敵？
